We carry cities with us long after we leave them, the particular angle of afternoon light across a familiar skyline, the colour of a street you walked a thousand times, the shape of a building that meant something. These are not details you find in a photograph. They live somewhere deeper than that.

We all need an analog respite. A place for those memories to land.

"I am looking to capture what home feels like. Sometimes we go to places where we feel right at home. I create these city prints to emote a sense of timelessness and personal reflection for all to use to connect with a memory of your own experiences in these wonderful places."

The Perspective

To achieve this, I often reject the noise of perspective. My Urban Prints capture the iconic spirit of cities through pure colour and two-dimensional shapes, a graphic language rooted in mid-20th-century design, where boldness and simplicity do the work that complexity usually crowds out.

This is minimalism with personality. Each print distils a city to its most essential character, what it feels like to know it. The landmarks, the palette and the mood. The thing that makes that place unmistakably itself.

Nicholas Girling has been building this collection since 2013. It is the ongoing work of an artist obsessed with making places feel iconic, city by city, vista by vista, each one rendered in the same flat, fearless graphic style that refuses to age.

Creativity must serve something we hold close. This is what that looks like.

 

 

The City Prints

These have proven to be highly collectible limited edition works, each one produced on archival cotton-rag stock with pigment inks for maximum colour fidelity and longevity. Many sizes are sold out. Every print is individually signed and numbered by Nicholas Girling, a mark of authenticity and a commitment to the work.
